to Akagera National Park
Getting to Akagera
National Park is straightforward, with the most common option being
the 2.5 to 3-hour road journey from Kigali, which is about 110 km
away . The route is mainly on paved roads, taking you through towns like
Rwamagana and Kayonza to the southern Kiyonza Gate, which is the main
entrance . While a standard car is suitable for the tarmac roads, a 4x4
vehicle is strongly recommended for navigating the park's interior dirt
roads, especially during the rainy season . You have the option to self-drive for
flexibility or to book a guided tour or private transfer, which are
the most convenient options . Although using public transport is possible,
it is challenging and not recommended for a safari, as you'll need to hire a
