Day by Day

Day01

Day 1: Arrival, Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, your guide welcomes you and takes you through the city. You visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to understand Rwanda’s history, then pass by the Convention Centre and stop at Kimironko Market to see local crafts and daily life. A short drive takes you to Mount Kigali viewpoint for wide city views. In the afternoon, you transfer north to Volcanoes National Park, about two hours away. The evening is spent at your lodge where you can relax and prepare for the next day’s trek. This first day balances cultural highlights with a smooth transfer, giving you time to rest before primate tracking begins.

Day02

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, you head to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing. Rangers guide you into the bamboo forest to track golden monkeys, known for their playful behavior and bright orange fur. The trek can take between one and four hours depending on their location. You spend one hour observing them before returning to the lodge for lunch. Later, you begin the long transfer to Uganda’s Kibale National Park, passing through rolling hills and rural villages. The drive takes most of the day, so you arrive in the evening ready for chimpanzee trekking the next morning.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Nature Walk

The day starts at Kibale’s Kanyanchu Visitor Center with a ranger briefing. Groups are assigned to habituated chimpanzee communities, and the trek lasts one to four hours. Once found, you spend an hour watching them feed, groom, and swing through the forest. After lunch, you explore Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary on foot. This community-run project is rich in birdlife, butterflies, and smaller primates. The walk also supports local conservation efforts. By evening, you return to your lodge with a full day of wildlife experiences, combining close chimpanzee viewing with a community-based nature walk.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Gorilla Park

After breakfast, you set off for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive takes five to six hours through western Uganda’s countryside, with stops for lunch along the way. Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorillas. You arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon. This day is mainly for travel, giving you time to rest and prepare for the gorilla trek tomorrow. The evening is spent checking gear, charging cameras, and relaxing before the highlight of the safari.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking and Lake Bunyonyi

Early in the morning, you report to Bwindi headquarters for a briefing. Rangers explain trekking rules before leading you into the dense forest. The trek can last one to six hours depending on gorilla movement. Once located, you spend one hour observing them in their natural habitat. After trekking, you receive a certificate and drive to Lake Bunyonyi, about two hours away. Known for its many islands, the lake offers a peaceful setting to relax after the demanding trek. You spend the evening at the lakeside lodge, enjoying the calm atmosphere and reflecting on the gorilla experience.

Day 6: Return to Kigali

After breakfast, you drive back to Kigali through rolling hills and border crossings. The trip takes about six to seven hours depending on traffic and border speed. On arrival, you may have time for a short city stop or shopping before your guide drops you at Kigali International Airport for your flight. This marks the end of your Rwanda Uganda primate tour, covering golden monkeys, chimpanzees, and gorillas across two countries with cultural and scenic highlights along the way.
